HP Red Sea 2013 – World of Underwater Images

This is the 9th year in a row that the Eilat Red Sea competition takes place in Eilat. Integrating elements from the photography, high-tech, touristic and diving industries, the HP Red Sea competition is branded as a worldwide leading underwater photography competition.

The HP Red Sea photo competition is distinguished by exceptional valuable prizes awarded to the winners, including huge cash prizes, diving vacations in dreamy destinations, underwater photo equipment, scuba gear and more. First prize of the main category is a $10,000 check!

This year, HP Red Sea will be taking place together with the Hyperbaric Medicine convention and the festive Israeli Diving Authority celebration for 50 years of diving in the Red Sea. Throughout the week of the HP Red Sea competition, exciting and interesting workshops and presentations will be carried out by some of the leading professionals in the Israeli diving industry.

The Eilat Red Sea event has been covered so far by many international media channels, such as CNN, Fashion TV, Reuters and BBC, as well as countless photo and diving magazines.   The upcoming HP Red Sea competition, planned for November 2012, will be sponsored by HP, the Israeli Ministry of Tourism, the Israeli Ministry of Culture & Sports, Eilat municipality, Isrotel hotels, Eilat’s Hotels Association, Israir, Cyprus Tourism organization, Papua New Guinea Tourism authority, Olympus, “Manta” diving center, Dolphin Reef, Eilat Underwater Observatory and many others.

The man behind the scenes and the spirit of the HP Red Sea event is David Pilosof, an experienced underwater photographer was also the first photographer in the world to introduce the concept of underwater nudity and fashion images, which can be found on one of the most successful photography books ever published, Samantha.

This year, the HP Red Sea introduces a new category, called the “National Team”, allowing photographers from each country to team-up and put together a stunning, award-winning portfolio of 6 images. Each team will be scored by the judges and by public votes. The team who managed to receive the highest integrated score will be announced as the winner and will be awarded with a $3,000 check. Team members will most definitely go home equipped with great national pride

Another category which draws much attention during the event is the Fish & Fashion category. Photographers participating in this category are required to a series of 5 images which are all about underwater models and fashion. This explains why during the competition, the diving center arena is always full of models walking in their bikinis and high-heels, while carrying scuba tanks on their backs.

In addition to diving, the HP Red Sea is much about celebrations. Daily Happy Hours each afternoon, a crazy Cyprus party on Thursday night, a festive World ShootOut winning ceremony on Friday night and an extremely elegant, high tension HP Red Sea winning ceremony on Saturday night - all of these ensure that you end up not only wet, but extremely satisfied.
