Categories & Prizes

The competition is open to both amateurs and professionals. 
The Eilat Shoot-Out will be held in Eilat, Israel during the three days of the competition, on October 21-23, 2013.
It is recommended that photographers interested in participating in this competition register in advance.

1. Main Cagetory – 5 Best Images

The 5 images submitted to this category will be first evaluated as standalone images with respect to their visual quality, creativity, composition and technical control of the media. An added value can be introduced by these images if they feature a binding concept, goal or visual connection that introduces them as a series rather than a random selection of images. The linking theme among the images can be either visual or thematic.

Prizes:

• 1st prize- $10,000 USD check, courtesy of HP

• 3rd prize- 10-day diving holiday for 1 person including dives at the Lissenung Island Resort, Papua New Guinea

2. Fish of the Year - 3 Images

The 3 images submitted to this category should feature a series that best and most creatively introduces a modeling book of the fish which was chosen by the competition's professional committee as the “Fish of the Year”.
At the Eilat Red sea opening ceremony, which will take place in November 20th, 2013, a marine biologist will present the fish chosen for this category. The fish will be introduced along corresponding images and basic information, such as its habits and preferred locations.
During the 3 days of the Eilat Red Sea 2013 shoot-out competition, the fish announced as the “Fish of the Year” will serve as a case study for all photographers participating in the “Fish of the Year” category. Images submitted to this category should be creative, original and diverse, introducing the daily routine of the fish in the context of the reef. Each image submitted within the series will be evaluated as a standalone image as well.

Prizes:

• 1st prize- 3-week diving safari for two in Papua New Guinea with Walindi and Loloata resorts and onboard the M.V. FeBrina plus round trip airline tickets Singapore-Papua-Singapore, courtesy of the Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority
• 2nd prize- 7 Days / 7 Nights trip for 2 people in the Maldives on board M/V CARPE DIEM, courtesy of WildDive & Carpe Diem
• 3rd prize- Sepa semi-dry 5mm wetsuit, made of Megastretch and Termospan, couresty of Sepa

3. The Best Singular Entry

Images submitted to this category should introduce an integration of the photographer’s artistic and technical skills, his visual attitude towards the underwater environment and the best of Eilat’s marine life.

Prizes:

• 1st prize - 1,000 bottles of “Maccabi” beer, courtesy of Tempo

4. Fish & Fashion - 5 Images

The 5 images submitted to this category should introduce creativity, aesthetics, originality, technical control of the media, creative lighting and an innovative approach towards the combination of the human body with fashion and nature. The series of images submitted should be visually homogeneous and should be able to serve as a campaign that features an explicit style. The photographer can make use of nudity, fashion and styling elements upon his choice.

Prizes:  

• 1st prize- $3,000 USD check, courtesy of Eilat’s Underwater Observatory Marine park
• 2nd prize- 7 nights (HB) and 5 diving days for 2 person in the Oasis Dive Resort in Marsa Alam
• 3rd prize- Cressi-sub innovative Leonardo dive computer, suitable for both recreational and technical diving, courtesy of Cressi-sub

• Best Model Prize - A dolphin pendant made of silver and rhodium with a stone.
  Note: The winning model is chosen by the jury panel and she/he is not necessarily the one who modeled for the winning photographer in this category.

5. The Mayor’s Prize - Competition Album Cover

The image that will be awarded with the Mayor’s Prize and introduced on the competition’s album cover should present impressive visualization. This image will be chosen among all images submitted to the various Eilat Shoot-Out categories.

6. Jury's Prize

A special prize will be granted for the photographer that submits the jury's favorite image. This image will be chosen among all images submitted to the various Eilat Shoot-Out categories.

Prize: $5,000 USD for purchasing a SeaCam Housing for a Nikon or Canon camera and/or SeaCam underwater photo accessories, courtesy of Seacam

7. National Team Category

Photographers from the same country are invited to team-up during the shoot-out and to put together a stunning, award-winning portfolio. Each team participating in the National Team category should consist of 3 photographers from the same country and should submit a portfolio of 6 best images – that is, 2 images per team member. Images submitted to this category should be captured by team photographers during the shoot-out. The judging phase and winning ceremony will take place during the Festival Mondial de L'image Sous Marine, October 31-November 3, 2013, Marseille, France.

Each team will be ranked by public online votes (15%), festival visitors (15%) and the jury panel at the festival (70%). The team with the highest integrated score will be announced as the winner.

Prize: The prize for the winning team is a $3000 USD check, plus 3 sets of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4, courtesy of Adobe
